We are not complainers and this is the first time we've ever left a negative review but felt is was absolutely necessary to pass our unfortunate experience to other consumers who may be considering doing business with Lakes Marine and Scott Langer.

Lie after lie, we had our pontoon in storage for the winter. They brought our pontoon boat out in April a month early, somehow they managed to break the motor landing and the boat engine ended up in the lake. They failed to tell us and they took the boat back to their marina. Glad our neighbor saw this.

We purchased a boat from Scott in July 2014 and it's been a nightmare since. We have made several significant purchases throughout the years and have NEVER experienced such poor customer service than we did with Scott. Will "try" to keep it short to hold your attention. Here goes:

3) We were told on numerous occasions the registration was on its way. We were suddenly told we wouldn't have the registration until he received the title for the waverunner, which wasn't until October 2014. That being said, we drove the boat the remainder of the summer with a bill of sale that Scott had re-issued a number of times.

PLEASE READ BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH LAKES MARINA (SCOTT LANGER)

4) Now it's April 2015 and he's had plenty of time to obtain the registration. Still nothing except excuse after excuse.

Scott has not kept one promise he's made.

1) My son took the boat out for a test ride and suddenly the boat began to fill up with water and began sinking because the plugs were never put in the boat. Ooops sorry!!! Pretty scary especially when you have 6 riders.

3) We were promised additional equipment. When we asked about it, Scott told us he was getting it from Apollo Marine. After waiting weeks and ignored calls, we called Apollo Marine. Jim at Apollo knew nothing about the equipment. SURPRISE!!

2) Scott took our boat and wave runner on a trade. Was told he paid off the waverunner however by the time he made the payment, the payoff amount had changed and a late fee was incurred. In the meantime, he delivered the waverunner to the new owner even though it was still in our name.

5) Now it's early May 2015, pick up the boat, STILL no registration. FINALLY mid May and we have the registration but no numbers to put on the boat. He told us the numbers were at Creative Vinyl being printed. Called Creative Vinyl to confirm they were ready, Pam said she had no orders for Scott and that she was calling him. Scott said he had left her a message. Pam told me she had no messages from Scott. My husband called Scott to find out what was going on with the numbers and Scott told him Creative Vinyl's phones had been now. Really????

It's been 2 months and we still don't have our pontoon. It's sitting in his lot collecting bird dodo. Engine is upside down. I'm frustrated and don't know what to do.

6) My son picks up the numbers, puts them on boat, takes the boat for spin. Within seconds the boat fills up with water AGAIN and begins sinking. My husband irately called Scott. Scott told him a hose “came off”. Ok, if you know anything about engines, hoses don’t just “come off”. They were never installed correctly. BTW, Apollo Marine installed the equipment at Scott’s expense. Go to Apollo Marine, much more experienced and top notch service.

Scott and his staff have been great! I had brought my boat to 2 different marinas in Illinois to fix an overheating issue and speedometer problem and neither one of them could figure it out. After Scott and his crew had my boat for just a couple days, they had it all figured out and the boat up and running like new again. Great service like this is what will keep me coming back to them not only for repairs but to purchase my other boating needs and fun stuff too.

This place is the worst. We had a horrible experience with them. I wish we could give them zero stars. After being told the boat would be done on 10 different dates, we finally got it a month late. Before the job was completed, they demanded payment, held our boat hostage, and then did not finish the job completely. Do not use them.
